Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios
In celebration of Pixar Animation Studios’ 30th anniversary, DDP and GNC Media will exhibit “PIXAR: 30 YEARS OF ANIMATION” at DDP organized by PIXAR ANIMATION STUDIOS.
In 1986, John Lasseter, Ed Catmull and Steve Jobs founded Pixar Animation Studios in California, U.S.A. It has been 30 years since then – an epic period of time in which the studio has enjoyed incredible success and created such beloved films as “Toy Story”, “Monsters, Inc.”, “Finding Nemo”, “UP”, “Inside Out” and “The Good Dinosaur” which continue to be loved by people all over the world.
More than anything, it is the unique stories and memorable characters that fans embrace. Pixar has almost as many artists working in traditional media—hand drawing, painting, pastels, sculpture—as they do in digital media to create these incredible worlds. Most of this work takes place during the development of a project, when the filmmakers are working out the story and the look of the film, but it is integral to the overall process.
The exhibit will include approximately 500 works of art such as hand-drawn sketches, paintings, storyboards, colorscripts, and maquettes (character models) created by the Pixar Animation Studios’ artists, as they participate in each film’s development process. Two unique installations, Zoetrope and Artscape, will be also featured. The “Toy Story” Zoetrope is a three-dimensional version of an early invention that demonstrated and explained visually, how a repeated image creates the illusion of motion. Artscape is a wide-screen, high-resolution media installation created using concept and development artwork. The viewer can enter and experience the exquisite detail of the artwork included.
The exhibition offers a rare and unique opportunity to experience the development and creative process at Pixar Animation Studios, including the creation of Story, Characters and Worlds.
