Fashion community had shown great interest in 2017 F/W HERA Seoul Fashion Week hosted by Seoul Design Foundation even before it opened, for its sophisticated collections by top-ranking designers and rich events and spectacles suitable for grand-scale festival.
The six-days of Seoul Fashion Week was filled with variety of corporate sponsorship programs and joint marketing activities, sample sale by participating brands, performances in collaboration with musicians, and other activities. Here are some numbers to highlight 2017 F/W HERA Seoul Fashion Week:
80,000 more visitors to DDP during the Fashion Week (Mar. 27 to Apr. 2)
Dongdaemoon was hit by the recent ebb of Chinese shoppers, but came around as the Fashion Week opened.
Before the Fashion Week, weekly average visitors to DDP was 140,000, but the number started to rise from a week before the opening (158,000 during Mar. 20 to 26). 225,000 visited DDP during the Fashion Week (Mar. 27 to Apr. 2), and the neighborhoods of Dongdaemoon, including Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station area and streets surrounding DDP, were bustling with people all day.
During this year’s Fashion Week, the 38 fashion-related events that invited general public to participate and the free, casual atmosphere for self-expression were the most important reasons for the fashion people all over Korea to gather in Dongdaemoon. Daily average of some 30,000 people visited DDP for interesting fashion-related programs, such as MCM Fashion Box, Best Dresser Award, Fashion Film Festival, Handmade Street Market, as well as the mentoring seminars and Fashion Week food trucks.
213 students majoring in fashion participated in the mentoring seminars where 5 world’s renowned experts in fashion business participated as mentors to discuss issues.
58 fashion shows, and deals worth 4.3 billion Korean Won by Korean and foreign buyers.
46 Seoul Collection shows took place during this year’s Fashion Week, where veteran and rising Korean designers and corporate brands participated. 70 designer brands, including 62 fashion brands, 2 miscellaneous goods brands and 6 accessory brands, participated in GNS Trade Show, the fashion trade show that invited Korean and foreign buyers. 23 brands participated in GNS mini fashion shows - 12 mini fashion shows were held, and 2 brands were introduced in each show.
Although the diplomatic air in Korea was rather critical, the interests of Chinese buyers and foreign press toward Seoul Fashion Week remained strong. 20 persons from foreign influential presses, such as Anders Madsen from i-D, Sara Maino from Vogue Italy, etc., as well as some 300 buyers (including 140 invited buyers) visited DDP to honor the Fashion Week with their presences.
802 business meetings were held as part of GNS Trade Show, which turned up approximately 43 billion 20 million Korean Won worth deals (expected total orders), which was another steady and strong performance after the Fashion Week for 2017 S/S.
Victor Seoul participated in this Trade Show with a showroom, and received orders from globally renowned department stores and select shops, such as Excelsior, Opening Ceremony NY, Opening Ceremony Japan, Saks Almaty, etc. It was a clear sign that GNS had potential to become a global trade show for brands and buyers beyond Korea and Asia.
Mr. Guho Jeong, the general director of HERA Seoul Fashion Week, commented that “more Korean and foreign buyers and fashion experts are showing interest in Seoul Fashion Week, and the number of fashion students from Asia and Europe, who are interested in learning Korean fashion, is growing. I will keep finding ways to promote Seoul Fashion Week into the world’s top 5 fashion weeks, such as introducing a variety of promotions and events in major cities in the world in collaboration with other overseas events and corporate community.”
